ABATE of South Carolina is Biker Rights.

ABATE of South Carolina, Inc. is the motorcyclists' rights organization of South Carolina. Our members brought freedom of choice to South Carolina bikers in June of 1980; ABATE amended South Carolina's mandatory motorcycle helmet law to allow adult freedom of choice. ABATE stands for A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments. Our philosophy is to defend liberty; while we do not oppose safety devices we oppose laws that mandate the usage of devices.

ABATE of SC operates in the style of a republic. You can learn more about the operation and governance of ABATE by reading our constitution and policies and procedures. A Motion Form is available for download.

I would like to thank all the ABATE members for their prayers and well wishes during my recent hospital stay. It means a lot to me and helps with the healing process more than you know. I can't thank you enough for all the kind thoughts and wishes.
Wiggy To cut down on rumor control, I'll try to give you the short story about what took place. I went in to MUSC for a heart cath and possibly another stent. What they found was not good so the docs scheduled me for open heart surgery the next week.

It is good to have people like Laurie (Carol) and Bill (William) O’Day who step up when their rights are being violated and are willing to take on the government. It is good to have 47 others who are willing to join them in protesting government actions that affect their rights. It is great when you can start early in the process and get things on the record.

Hi all,
The state supreme court heard the helmet law case today, but is not expected to make a decision for up to 6 weeks. The judge did make a statement saying that she felt the reason for myrtle beaches helmet law was to get rid of bikers and she did not like that fact. When I receive more info, I will pass it on to you.

To all concerned.  As many of you know, Wiggy is the Lowcountry Area Coordinator and has been an ABATE of SC member from the beginning.

WiggyJust wanted to let you know that I talked to Donna today. Wiggy has 80% to 90% blockage in 3 of the main valves to his heart. He is scheduled for quadruple by-pass surgery on Monday morning at 6am. Donna said it will take 8 to 12 hours. He will be in Intensive Care for 2 days and in a room for 2 days, that is if all goes well, as the Doctor doesn't expect any problems. Then she will bring him home over the weekend. He will be out of work at least 6 to 8 weeks.
If ABATE is going to do anything to help them out, please let me know. I know they can use the help but would never ask.
Will let you know how things are going with Wiggy as soon as I talk to Donna after surgery.
